One way to get in to the public service is to sign up to a bunch of registers. These can be Non-ongoing, Ongoing, casual or permanent. Its a great way to have your resume in there in case of a large intake (Services Australia do this regularly). You do need to register with each individual department so this can take some time and some of the applications need to be tailored to the exact criteria of the job descriptions listed, but if you get in, its all worth it!
